This largest section of Remembering the Future course includes the tradition of the biggest population; Finno-Ugric nations. ( Please go to see Flow of inspiration / Finno – Ugric and Siberian nations) Material is chosen according to the will of telling about the past everyday life and traditions. There are hardly any other objects made by humans which may tell more about the person, than pieces of clothing. The outward appearance shows the feeling, age, social status, religion of the person. In any case documentation (pictures, photographs and collected pieces ) often shows the sunny part of the life, even if, in our studies the rough material would also be interesting.

The western clothing examples are chosen from the collection of Swedish speaking Finland of Föreningen Brages Dräcktbyrå / Bo Lönnqvist collection (FBdbs), items photographed in Brage for this studying material and both for western and eastern material from the collections of the National Board of Antiquities (NBA).

The pictures are a guide from the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia in Finland to the Ural areas in Russia. Please follow the lines in materials; fur, leather, wool, linen, cotton and silk. Other varying elements are the shape of the garments, the design of the decorations and the use of the accessories.
