General

The Degree Programme of the Ceramic and Glass Design Department provides students with the knowledge and skills needed in different professional tasks of product design, art and research. The changing requirements on the branch, like computer aided design, changing production methods, new materials and growing internationality have been considered when planning the curriculum. Students can participate in the research programme of the research laboratory.

Objectives

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree (120 cr/180 ECTS-cr) provides the students with the basic knowledge and skills of the materials of ceramic and glass, the production methods and different factors of design. The objective is to acquire the level of independent working and the knowledge of the requirements of the professions of the field. The artistic tuition aims to emphasize the visionary skills of an artist. Students are familiarized with the tasks of small-scale and computer aided product design of ceramic and glass industry.
The Master of Arts (MA) Degree (60 cr/120 ECTS-cr) aims to develop the student's critical vision and professional skills. The studies emphasize the student's personal tuition through seminar working and independent production.

Teaching, Studying and Study Guiding

The study structure of the Department of Ceramic and Glass Design is not divided into study years. This enables individual study plans and flexible and fast study progress. For new students there is an informative meeting and tutoring in the beginning of the autumn term. In the degree programmes there is study guiding on special problems; general study guiding is given by the Office for Study Affairs.
