- Tapio Yli-Viikari, Born 13.11.1948, Polvijärvi, Finland -
Tapio Yli-Viikari, a student of Kyllikki Salmenhaara graduated from UIAH 1974. Yli-Viikari was teaching assistant to Salmenhaara years 1974-76. Years 1976 -1987 Yli-Viikari was engaged at the Arabia Porcelain factory as a designer and head of the art and design department. 

Yli-Viikari received 1978 the Finnish State Design Award for his design of Kokki owenware for Arabia. During the years 1980-1987 Yli-Viikari was responsible for exhibition activities of Arabia Porcelain. He organised more than 80 exhibitions of ceramic art and design in Finland and abroad. He was responsible of renovation project of Arabia Museum and Gallery 1984. Since 1987 freelance exhibition designer. 

Tapio Yli-Viikari joined the UIAH in 1987 to lead the ceramics department. During the following years a glass programme was established and a research laboratory was founded. Yli-Viikari is director and member in several development projects for research in ceramic and glass materials and design.
