Students enrolled in the graphic design programmes are entitled to earn a lower Bachelor of Arts Degree (120 credits) and/or a higher Master of Arts degree (180 credits). The estimated completion times are 3 years (BA) and 5 years (MA). Only the Master of Arts degree can also be earned in the English language.
The educational curriculum familiarises students with the graphic design field's
entire spectrum. Study areas range from the design of printed visual communications
to digital image processing, from the design of advertising and corporate graphics
to packaging design, from book and publication design to electronic journalism.
Various levels of digital production and animated graphical applications form
an essential part of the work assignments.
The studies for the BA degree provide the basis for practical job skills as well as the further studies required for the MA degree. In both programmes several study path options enable students to specialise in visual communications and artistic endeavours.
Studies investigate the different forms of visual communications. Besides artistic and professional subjects and exercises, the student practices conceptual and research-based working methods, while project-based activities familiarise the student with practical design operations.
The course of study in the Bachelor of Arts programme equips students with the basic skills that will enable them to function in various professional capacities as a designer, illustrator, layout artist, book designer, packaging designer, advertising designer, information designer as well as an audio-visual and animation designer. Besides developing the skills for conceptual design and art director tasks, the Master of Arts degree also provides opportunities to conduct research or transfer to further studies.
