The Northern Lights Gallery is dedicated to the productions and works carried out in the light and space art workshops. Light, sound, space and materials come together in a variety of configurations in the works produced since 1995, and the images and other records made of the works are presented here in the Northern Lights Gallery. All the works were realized as team efforts in various locations in central Helsinki as part of the Forces of Light, City Festival, which has been chosen as one of the profile projects of the Helsinki, European City of Culture 2000.
The relationship between a work of art and the documents made from it is often problematic. Videotapes, photographs and sound recordings only open a limited perspective on works based on the interplay between light, sound and space and their changes in time. However, when it is documented, a transitory work can be made available to the public again and again regardless of time or place.
