SHEDDING ASKIN AND BEING REBORN - FAREWELL TO ART
Art is not so important and significant any more to me. It did play a significant role in my past life. Art was the only approach for me to understand this world, life and spiritual state.
In 1998, art and art practice were shifted and grounded; changed into an added burden; useless luggage when 1 practised the preparation of nothingness for Chinese calligraphy work. It happened so suddenly but spontaneously.
As if I have come to a new stage of life. The lines disappeared between art and nature; between fine art and unrefined art; between art and life; between myself and the others. It is a "Greater Beauty" state which 1 have come into,' an integration between myself and the Wholeness.
SHEDDING A SKIN AND BEING REBORN - THE DETACHMENT AND THE "HAO" NAME OF CHINESE SCHOLAR ARTISTS
Chinese culture is the root of mine that 1 have resourcefully stayed in my life. Under the philosophy of Dao, the intention of art practice for Chinese scholar artists was in order to achieve a "Big Beauty" - Integration between man and nature. Art was not part of social role, but a path to approach Dao.
The scholar artists therefore adopted the "Hao" names as the symbols of self-realisation to the awakening of the "Big Beauty". This is a very high spiritual state, a genuine detachment from the common life and society. It contains a-significant meaning in human life.
