Abstract:

|The home and the body are perceived and presented as two windows of the same gallery of images portraying our own selves. The home is a theatre where we set the stage and where we perform the true life stories of dressing and undressing, transforming our bodies and living spaces to create our personal identity.

|The fact that being a designer does not separate nor exclude that of being a user, allowed me to include personal experiences in the project. Experiencing change through travelling, moving to a new flat or buying new shoes could be a consciously chosen opportunity for personal transformation. On the other hand, experiencing natural change on yearly/daily base is imposing transformation to which one has to adapt. However, these two aspects of change and transformation are deeply interlaced in everyday situations.

|My approach was based on previously perceived phenomena and shapes and on gradual extension of possible points of view to the world, which surrounds us. Plane, straight line and their relation through motion and fold become more than the basic elements of geometry. Experimenting with folded paper proved to be an exceptionally suitable working method helping me to appreciate not only the final effect, but also the process through which the desired result was accomplished. The principles of nature, structures of origami and geometry are all applied in the construction of my artefacts. I have investigated properties of 'non-orientable' surfaces such as Möbius band and Klein bottle, through experiments, and I have generated possible applications.

|'Fold to Form' presents combination of childhood fairy-tales, science-fiction stories and dream world fantasies through the playful objects of furniture and fashion accessories.
